Cozy Stickerville: building a village with stickers
Choices that stay on the map: explore Cozy Stickerville’s cooperative campaign without spoiling its discoveries.
Board games
A small building appears beside the river. Next session it will still be there, preserving a decision you made together. How does a game change when its board remembers what you have done?
Cozy Stickerville by Unexpected Games (affiliate link) builds a village through decisions, events and stickers. Released in 2026 and nominated for that year’s Spiel des Jahres, it uses a campaign to carry choices from one session into the next.
The map remembers
Each turn has a morning event and an afternoon action. The campaign spans ten in-game years, with choices shaping the village. This persistence belongs to its legacy format: you do not simply lift every piece to return the world to its starting state.
The tutorial introduces the system before you begin. Notice the difference between reading an event and performing an action. A symbol enabling something later does not necessarily ask you to resolve it immediately. Avoid reading ahead in the story to find a supposedly correct decision.
The publisher describes a campaign without a losing state. That does not erase the effects of choices; it shifts the question toward what kind of village you want to help create.
Cooperation includes letting others choose
Discussion can support a decision, but one person optimizing every turn for the group can crowd everyone else out. Agree beforehand whether you want quiet exploration, discussion or a mixture. Let the active player retain the decisions assigned to them.
Between sessions, choose one corner of the map and recall the decision that made it appear. You do not need a complete written recap. One sentence can make the village more than a list of available effects.
Stickers have placement rules
Visual freedom does not remove placement restrictions. The manual covers backgrounds, overlaps, the river and board folds. Check before sticking: covering an icon or joining sections that need to fold can make later use awkward.
When comparing Cozy Stickerville on Amazon (affiliate link) , pay particular attention to language because reading and choosing are central to play. With a used copy, ask whether stickers have been applied or the campaign has progressed. A component inventory alone does not describe its state.
For cooperation built around separate challenges and restricted discussion during execution, Take Time offers a different relationship between a shared plan and individual decisions.
