Snap Circuits BRIC: building with lights and circuits

The house is finished, but its light will not turn on. Is a connection missing, is a component facing the wrong way, or was there never a complete circuit? A building can hide its most interesting problem behind a wall.

Two constructions at once

Supporting a structure and correctly connecting components are different problems. A build can look immaculate without working. A circuit can also work on its base and stop after being moved into a building.

In the video, track one light, then the connections between it and the power supply. Notice the adapters linking the block construction and circuit system. Your structure needs to leave room for connections and for your hands when you investigate them.

Before raising walls, build an introductory project exactly as shown in the manual. Test it and sketch its connections. Then consider how to integrate it into a structure without changing the circuit.

Turn a fault into a specific question

If it stops working, switch off the power before inspecting the construction. Compare it with the working circuit and look for one difference at a time. Avoid improvised bridges or combining power sources to get “more power.” Use only connections and power arrangements authorized by the manufacturer.

For a design challenge, build a small facade that keeps the switch visible and leaves access to the connections. Decide which section can be removed before you start. Making maintenance possible is part of designing a useful object.
